Meet Asya Jones
(Asya sounds like Asia)
Asya is a data educator, learning designer, and founder of Rose Data Studio. Her love of mathematics began in childhood, but her work in public health research and analytics eventually led her to a different question: How do we help more people develop the skills and judgment to use data in meaningful ways?
Today, Asya teaches graduate statistics and biostatistics at UCLA and the Medical University of South Carolina. Across her teaching and training, she has supported more than 2,600 learners, from graduate students and public health professionals to online learners developing foundational data skills.
She especially enjoys the work of designing learning experiences. Whether she's rethinking an assignment, developing a data communication workshop, or redesigning an asynchronous course, she's interested in helping students connect what they're learning to the decisions they'll make in their professional lives.
Through Rose Data Studio, Asya brings that approach to faculty and academic programs looking to modernize foundational statistics and data education. Her work emphasizes statistical reasoning, data communication, AI literacy, and practical assessments that align with academic competencies and professional expectations.
Asya earned her B.S. in Mathematics from Spelman College and her M.S. in Biostatistics from UCLA's Fielding School of Public Health. She is a Ph.D. candidate in Policy Analysis at the RAND School of Public Policy, where her research examines how Black women use non-degree credentials to build pathways into and through careers in data.
In 2022, she received a Silver Medal for Innovation for her role in developing a policy analysis hackathon for HBCU students.
